Technology for 21st Century Learners in Northwest Minnesota

NCW School Dist is thinking about ChromeBooks for the 9th-12th grade students for next year.    I've purchased one to see if I could set it up through a Proxy Server.  We have been using Meraki to connect the iPads we have to the Proxy.  This way when students take iPads home they have to come through our school network and firewall before getting to the internet.

I've tried contacting Google to find a solution.  I called them about 1:00 today and am still on hold.  I've emailed them several times with the response to call their help number.

Would you know of a way to set up a proxy connection that students cannot change.  I know how to set the proxy on the ChromeBook - however students would be able to change that.  Or do you know someone I can contact to ask for help.  Or a website that gives me a way to do this.

Can anyone help Ron with this?

Please post here so others can see response.

If you want to contact him directly here is his email address.

You can set it in the chrome management advance settings.

Log into the admin dashboard (admin.google.com) and see picture below.

I should also note that this will affect all users that are logged into the chrome browser, not just chromebooks.

It may be difficult to find the chrome management peice.  On your dashboard, you will see on the bottom "More Controls".  You will then see "other google services".  You can then add it to your dashboard so its easy to find again.

Chrome management is in "Other google Services"

Our Proxy is user based.  Users of iPads need to log into the Proxy with username and password.  We have only purchased enough licenses for Mobile devices.  Using this for all students and staff would get expensive - Also, the way it looks, if they signed on to the ChromeBook with a personal Google account they would not be forced into the proxy.  Or am I incorrect with this assumption?

The best way would to buy the device management for the chromebook.  This way you enroll your chromebooks into your google apps domain, and then only users in your domain can log into the chromebooks.  You then can manage the setting per the device and not the user.  The fee is either $20 or $30 for the life of the device.
