Does anyone have ideas or sources for training for Staff Workshop days. We are looking to provide different breakout sessions during our upcoming staff dev days. Ideally I would like to find some online instructor led training classes, but I am open to all ideas. The main issue we seem to be facing is trying to get classes at multiple levels and trying to keep sessions small so people get something out of them. I have already tapped the staff who are on the advanced side to help so I have about used up all my internal resources.
Keith:
I would recommend doing a session on Thinkfinity - which are free online curriculum resources that are vetted by educators and are available at thinkfinity.org. It is easy to use, and educators basically just need some orientation to the website and how to find the resources they need. If you're having a staff development day, depending on your needs, I can come out and do this for you or else maybe we could hook up over videoconferencing.
Another thing I like to show educators are the Electronic LIbrary of Minnesota (ELM) resources, which are available to all Minnesota citizens - and there are some new Encyclopedia Britannica resources that are fantastic - and these are all available to your district because they are already paid for with state and federal funding.
