We are investigating an update to our electronic library checkout software. We are currently using Library Pro with all the data stored on our servers ... it is a very old version. Anyone using the new version? How do you like it?
Another school recommended Destiny (an online checkout system) .... it sounded great. Is it? Does anyone know if we would have to recode all of our books to switch?
Region 1 hosts a Follett Destiny Library Management Solution - the cost of the software has been brought down through cooperative purchase, and we can host it for you at a low price. I also provide technical assistance on the software.
By getting it through us, you also get access to training and other professional development opportunities through the North Star Library Consortium - which is made up of all the users on our Destiny system.
If you want to take a glance at a catalog and see who is part of the consortium, you can go to http://www.nlln.org/northstar.html and learn more about the consortium and see how the catalogs look. This software also has great features for library management - you can do inventories, sort reports on the collection, and all kinds of things. It is a system specifically designed for school libraries.
If you'd like to see how it looks, I can also jump on with you using our remote help desk software and show you some of the features.
Bob Wheeler can give you pricing and explain details on the hosting - he can be reached at (218) 236-2990.
We use Destiny and have been very happy with it. It has been a long time since we switched, but I believe we just imported our existing barcodes from our old system and reused them.
