I am looking for reliable network monitoring software that would reside on my network and monitor devices such as switches, wlan, internet access, etc.  Anyone got a recommendation?

Thanks

I've used nagios at my last position.  I had it monitor switches, gateways, servers, anything that was critical if it went down.  I was running in on ubuntu.  It's not very friendly to configure.  Lots of text files.  But once I got it up and running it was great.  I had it monitoring all Windows servers.  I had to install nsclient++ on the servers so nagios could also monitor more than just a ping reply.  I had it configured so it would email me if any status changed on the things I was monitoring.

Zenoss is another open source monitoring system that I have heard others use.

Let's talk about it at our next meeting.
I can do a quick demo of nagios thats installed at Pelican Rapids if there is time.
