Google Docs Dropbox folder

As we begin playing with Google Docs the first thing staff want is a homework drop box.  A folder where students can drop a file and other students can't edit them.  I realize you can look at the revision history, but it would be a lot simpler if that wasn't an issue.  Can this be done?

I have the student save the assignment as the assignment name-their name, then share that document with only me.  Then, in my account, I have each class as a "collection" and I drop their assignment into their class collection.  Since I am the only one with whom they share the completed homework, I am the only one who can edit it.   I grade it and save the file and then they can see the corrected assignment.    Lynn
