Canvas follow up information to Northwest Service Cooperative, MN
1) Free Canvas Staging Environment: For any Technology Directors (school districts) interested in exploring and evaluating Canvas with their teachers and staff, I would be more than happy to issue each their very own school Canvas staging environment. All that I will need is:
Name:
Email Address:
2) Storage Space:
Canvas gives schools a lot of storage on the cloud: the standard storage pool is calculated as 500mb/FTE, which can be assigned to Users and Courses via quotas.
Our standard package provides a lot of storage space (it's a pool calculated at 500mb x FTE), and we make it easy and inexpensive to double or triple that.
Canvas storage is allocated as a pool - if the institution has 2000 FTE, we give them 1TB of storage. That storage can be used however they please - in courses, by users, uploaded media, files, anything.
Canvas uses the Kaltura media service to seamlessly encode and distribute new or existing multimedia in a variety of formats for specific user needs. Kaltura supports importing of major media file types and codecs, including mp4, mov, wmv, avi, flv, rm, mpg, mp3, etc.
Q: Is there a limit to the amount of time that can be recorded on the rich text editor > record media?
We recommend using the Media Recorder for short, engaging, 10 minute lectures and demonstrations but it supports recording longer. The only know limitation is a 500mb limit (see below). As an example, a 60 minute recording results in ~120MB file.
3) SIS Integration:
Canvas supports custom integration with various student information systems (SIS) via its API to provision user profiles, courses, groups, enrollments, and more.
Canvas can be integrated with nearly any student information systems (SIS) via a variety of methods, including manual import, batch, automated, and even near-real-time to produce Canvas users, courses, enrollments, groups, and more. Don't worry -- our Implementation team will guide you through this process, but for now just know that Canvas makes this flexible by using a standard Canvas CSV format (see SIS CSV files for more details) that can be automatically imported using our web services API (seeSIS Import API for more details).
There are many current Canvas customers using the following SIS systems:
Infinite Campus: Is SIF 2 Compliant
Skyward: Is SIF 2 Compliant
Synergy (Edupoint): Pro Services is developing an integration with Parent VUE (aka ParentVue) which provides SSO authentication between Parent VUE and Canvas.
4) Northwest Service Cooperative - Consortium Pricing:
Below is what we are able to offer your school districts given the volume of those potential users wanting to purchase Canvas:
If school districts want to sign a multiple year contract, they can do so according to the submitted chart below:
If any other school districts associated with your consortium want to purchase Canvas in order to increase volume and drive down price, they can do so according to the chart below or at the same year 1 price of $6.00 per user.
5) Any additional demo of Canvas can be scheduled here: Schedule a Canvas Demo And please feel free to reach out to me for any other purpose or for a request for an onsite demo of Canvas if needs be :)
Have a great day!
