LOOKING AHEAD: Transition to TestNav 8 for 2015–2016 School Year

Technology Information Page on PearsonAccess

On July 31, 2015, the TestNav 7.5 tab on the Technology Information page on PearsonAccess will be replaced with a TestNav 8 tab. TestNav 8 is Pearson’s test delivery platform for the 2015–2016 OLPA and MCA assessments. The TestNav 8 tab will include links to the TestNav 8 Online Support page, posted by topic. View the TestNav 8 Online Support page (PearsonAccess > TestNav 8 Online Support (Under Quick Links)).

Pearson will provide more information about TestNav Desktop, the updated SystemCheck, and additional technology documentation and trainings in August in preparation for the OLPA 2015–2016 administration.

New Version of ProctorCache

A new version of ProctorCache (2015.1.17) is available for TestNav 8. Please update your testing network to the latest version; if you are using proctor caching, installing the latest version is necessary to run OLPA. NOTE: Installing ProctorCache DOES NOT automatically cache test content. ProctorCache may be installed at any time before caching test content. Test content may be cached starting two weeks before testing.

Proctor Caching accelerates the delivery of test content to students and reduces the amount of bandwidth required, providing the best online testing experience.

A new functionality to this version is the option to add a local password. ProctorCache requires a password to refresh, reload, or purge content. The default password is t35t1n6; however, it is strongly recommended that you create a custom password set locally. You can change the default password at any time. For instructions on changing the password, select the Change Password hyperlink on the Set Up and Use ProctorCache page of the TestNav 8 Online Support page. View Set Up and Use ProctorCache (PearsonAccess > TestNav 8 Online Support > Set Up and Use ProctorCache). Confirm password protocol with the District Technology Coordinator before setting up or changing the password.

To update ProctorCache to version 2015.1.17, you should first purge all test content from prior test administrations using your current installation of proctor caching. Content downloaded from the 2014–2015 test year is no longer accessible to district staff and students and should be purged. Next, uninstall the previous version of proctor caching. You can uninstall ProctorCache using the software removal process for your operating system. Finally, reboot the computer and install the more recent version of proctor caching. If you are not a network administrator, proctor caching requires full local administrator permissions and a working knowledge of your network.

When you prepare to install ProctorCache, you should consider the following factors, depending on your organization and technology. ProctorCache does not require special hardware or server equipment.

[if !supportLists]·        [endif]The computer running proctor caching should be located as close as possible on the network to the TestNav 8 clients. Proctor Caching can be implemented at the school or lab level.

[if !supportLists]·        [endif]You should NOT install ProctorCache on a computer you intend to use for student testing.

[if !supportLists]·        [endif]A typical installation takes approximately 10 minutes per proctor caching computer.

Your installation steps will differ depending on your platform. On the Set Up and Use ProctorCache, you will find additional information on installing ProctorCache on a Mac OSX and Windows systems.
