I am curious if any districts are printing from their iPads?  If you are, did you purchase a printer that is AirPrint capable, or install some other peice to make your current printers available for the iPads to print to?  We have a windows network within our district with an Aruba wireless system in place.  No other apple products in the building.

Hi Valerie:

A lot of the districts I work with are rethinking the whole idea of printing when using an iPad - the device is not designed to produce a lot of printing, so many of them are using electronic applications for student work like Drop Box where the teacher can access the material electronically and not print it.

I agree with Mary, however we have seen some districts that just have to print for certain circumstances.  We have used FingerPrint on the Windows side and it's pretty slick.

There is also a "hack" to enable AirPrint without a 2nd party utility, http://jaxov.com/2010/11/how-to-enable-airprint-service-on-windows/

I've tried to make the case that there is absolutely no printing from ipads, but I have already caved in.  The teacher/student have justified the reasons to print.

I have done both, new printers and software that will make printers be available via air print.

The printers I bought were not airprint capable at first, but a firmware update later added the airprint functionality.  The printers I bought are hp m602n (b/w) and hp m551n (color).

I have also have installed software on a windows server which advertised all the printers installed onto that server to all the ipads.  I have also installed software on a mac client which shared the printer that was installed on that computer via airprint.  I don't remember the name of the software of either one, but they could be easily found doing a google search.
