If you do use Zoom and you initiate meetings, there are few settings you should check to make your meetings safer.

First, set the meeting option to limit screen sharing so only the host can share her screen.

In the host controls for the meeting, click the arrow next to the Share Screen button and click the Advanced Sharing Options.

Then, under Who Can Share? choose “Only Host.”

This will keep anyone but the host from sharing their screens, which is a big part of the problem.

For an added layer of security, consider enabling the Waiting Room feature. Users can log into the meeting, but they’re kept in a virtual waiting room until the host admits them to the meeting individually.

This takes extra time at the beginning of the meeting, so it might only be feasible for smaller groups.

To enable the waiting room, the administrator of the Zoom account needs to click on Account Management and then Account Settings. In the Meeting tab, find the Waiting Room option and enable it.

Having the Waiting Room enabled also means that no one can enter the meeting before the host, which is when most Zoombombing happens.

Finally, meeting hosts can enable passwords for the meeting, which is best if the password is emailed to the participants separately from the meeting invitation.

These three things can keep your Zoom meetings safe from outsiders.
